Walter Phillip Garner
OGDEN- Walter Phillip Garner beloved husband, father and grandfather passed on August 11, 2011 at Mckay Dee Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 26, 1926 in Ogden, Utah to Phillip Andrew Garner and Martha Isabella Pincock. He married Mildred Shirley Hurst on September 20, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Walt was in the US Navy where he served in WWII he entered the service on May 23, 1944 and was stationed in San Diego.
He lived in Ogden, Utah his entire life.
He was a High Priest in the LDS Church and holding various callings, most important he was a faithful home teacher. He was an expert craftsman, he could build or fix anything out of wood or concrete. He was always willing to teach and share his knowledge.
He worked for several construction companies ending his career working for his son Kevin at CSU.
Walt will be deeply missed not only by his family but all those who worked with him.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Hurst, Ogden, UT; his sons Dale (Fawnette) Puyallup, WA.; Kevin (Shauna), Ogden, UT.; Steven (Jayne), Layton, UT. ; daughter, Diane (Carl) Gilbert, North Ogden, Ut.; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and eight sisters, one granddaughter Tracie Gilbert.
Funeral services will be held on Friday August 19, at 11 a.m. at Old Post Ward, 5191 Old Post Rd.
Family will meet with friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary 3408 Washington and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Lindquist Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
