Walter V. Horn, Jr.

1934-2014

Walter Victor Horn, Jr., 79, of St. Charles, MO passed away Friday, April 4, 2014.  He was born in Chicago, Illinois, August 19, 1934 to the late Ethel and Walter V. Horn, Sr.

He graduated from Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra, CA.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Civic Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (Gunson) Horn.

Walter is remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He worked over 55 years in the engineering and construction industry for Bechtel, Tennessee Valley Authority, Kwame Building Group and in private consulting as a licensed professional engineer.  Each location became home as Walter involved himself in the community, school and church in California; Illinois; Newfoundland, Canada; Arkansas; Washington; Delaware; Tennessee and Missouri.

He served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his lifetime, particularly working with and teaching the youth.  Along with his beloved wife, Walter served as branch president in Tennessee and Missouri, and spent many of his last years teaching of and serving in the temple.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bud; sister, LaVerne Englehart; son, Scott; and son-in-law, Randy Irwin.  Walter is survived by his daughter, Kim Irwin; son, Kevin (Diane); daughter-in-law, Debbie Wilkinson (Bill); 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Viewing and funeral services were held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2245 S. Old Highway 94, St. Charles, Missouri. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Lakeview Memorial Estates, Bountiful, Utah under the directions of Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.
