WALTER ROHLOFF
1922-2017
Walter Kurt Arnold Rohloff, was born June 4, 1922 in Neubrandenburg, Germany and died February 22, 2017 in Bountiful, Utah. Walter’s love of his life and also his eternal companion is Edith Gerda Birth. They married February 10, 1949. Their marriage was later solemnized at the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1956. He is the son of Bruno and Irene Rohloff.
Walter learned tool making in Germany and worked at the U of U for Dr. Willem Kolff, who shared and gave to Walter a metal he was decorated with by the Queen of the Netherlands. Walter worked on the development of the artificial heart. He enjoyed scouting and was decorated with the Silver Beaver for his service. He loved our Heavenly Father and served Him by loving and serving his fellow man. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many positions, including Bishop of the Val Verda 3rd Ward and serving two fulltime missions to Germany, one with his Herzele.
He loved his family. After 3 miscarriages, Edith and Walter adopted a boy, Mario and a girl Diana. Being grateful to the Lord for his help and guidance, Walter wrote an unusual book, “Under the Wings of the Almighty” about his life. It is available on Amazon and Kindle.
He is survived by his son, Mario; daughter, Diana; and six grandchildren, Cassie and Shea Stegner, Brock, Riley Taulia and Braden Rohloff. He is preceded in death by his wife Edith (Herzele), his parents and sister, Elfriede.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Val Verda 5th Ward, 2624 S. 50th W. Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may visit on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
