Walter "Bud" Sorensen
Walter Sorensen passed away on Sunday morning November 18, 2012. Walter was born in Ogden, Utah on August 20, 1923 to Walter N. and Elsie Payne Sorensen. Walter was the oldest of three and the only son.
He graduated from Ogden High School. Afterwards he joined the US Marine Corps during World War II where he served in the Pacific. Once Walter returned home he attended Weber College. Walter met and married Clara Mann in Mandan, North Dakota.
Walter retired after 30 years of services at Hill Air Force Base working in the supply department.
After his retirement, he learned how to make chains. Walter has been a member of the Golden Spiek Gem and Mineral Society. His interest first came about when he attended the National Federation Show at Weber State in 1977. Classes taught at the Union Building. Lix Rudd showed him some chain patterns and he was hooked. He was neber content with the easy ones, but proceeded from the easy into the complicated, and ultimately, the "impossible" varieties of chains. Walter acquired or made a variety of equipment or machinery. Bud never has taken the easy way out. He would solder every link with a hand held butane torch. Walter became well known through the entire region and nationally for his expertise in chain making. He demonstrated at many loval and federation and National shows. Walter started to teach how to make chains and jewelry at North Ogden Senior Center. Walter always had a full class of 10 students with a waiting list. He retired from teaching after 25 years of volunteer service.
Walter is survived by his wife, Clara; sons, Craig and Scott (Laura); granddaughter, Amanda; great-granddaughter, Journii; great-grandson, Jaxton; and two sisters, Evelyn Watts and Doris Frey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
