Wanna Mae Moore Hyden

Wanna Mae Moore Hyden, 89, passed away on June 15, 2017, at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden surrounded by her loving family. Wanna, along with her twin brother Charles Harland Moore, were born on June 19, 1927, in Helena, Montana, to Walter Roy and Della Ruth Margaret Smelser Moore.

She was raised in Hall, Montana, where her family ran a hotel until they moved to Utah in 1942. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1945. After graduation, she started a twenty-year career as an operator for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. and worked there until 1965, all while raising her family. She also worked for the Republican Party to successfully elect candidates into office, although she was a lifelong Democrat at heart.

On May 18, 1946, she married Robert William Hanna in Salt Lake City, but they were later divorced. Together they had one child, Terrence Lee Hanna (Sally). On December 21, 1951, she married the love of her life, Lawrence Aldon (Fred) Hyden, in Ogden, Utah. She met Fred while living with her sister’s family in Logan, after the Moore family moved to Utah in 1942. Together they raised three amazing sons.

She loved her family and was very happy upon the birth of her grandchildren. While her grandchildren were young, she enjoyed babysitting and taking care of them. She always said her grandkids were the joy of her life. She loved spending time with her family, and continued to keep a positive attitude through the years. She looked for the good in everyone she met, and she was a delightful person to be around.

Wanna enjoyed taking long drives in the car with Fred including quick trips to Wendover, Nevada. She felt most at home at the family cabin near Bearmouth, Montana, where she loved to connect with family and friends. She will be remembered for her humor, unique quotes and one-liners, and her love for music and dance. Wanna continued in her mother’s footsteps to become a passionate collector of fine lead crystal and china. She took pride in her collection, and she loved to find different pieces to add to her hutch and sitting room.

She and Fred were members of the American Legion and the Gem & Mineral Society.

Wanna and Fred had two sons Brad L. Hyden (Debbie) and Walter Bart Hyden (Kathy).

Wanna has five grandchildren, Linda (Ryan), Ashlee, Amber (Rusty), Valleen, and Tyler (Kayla), and two great-grandsons, Robert and Tavin, with one great-granddaughter Randi Lynn due in September.

Wanna was preceded in death by her parents, brother Douglas Everett James, twin brother Charles Harland, and sisters Dixie Lenore, and Martha Lou, and her husband of 64 years, Fred. 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
