Ward Horace Hedges

December 25, 1932 — April 15, 2025

Ward Horace Hedges, 92, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, April 15, 2025. He was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1932, in Ogden, Utah, to his parents, Horace Emery and Lillian Rose Maus Hedges.

He married Ann Bock on December 29, 1956, in Ogden, Utah. Ward and Ann raised their family in Fairbanks, Alaska, North Ogden, and Huntsville, Utah, where they have lived the past 48 years on his beloved “Swamp.”

Ward received his M.D. from the University of Utah, interned in Vancouver, British Columbia, and spent three years residency in the School of Medicine at the University of Utah in Psychiatry. He practiced Psychiatry in Ogden and Huntsville for many years.

He loved the outdoors. He was an avid fly fisherman as well as a duck and goose hunter. He enjoyed identifying plants, birds, and fossils. He downhill skied at Snow Basin before there was a ski lift and took up cross-country skiing before most people in Utah had ever heard of it. He rode his bike every chance he got until he was almost 90 years old. Despite his wife’s best efforts, Ward assiduously avoided church. He had a large group of lifelong friends, but his first love and priority was always his family.

Ward is survived by his sweet wife, Ann; children, Dawson (Lorraine), Julie (Steve) Brown, Andrew (JoAnn), Elizabeth (Bill) Rogers, Amy (Greg) Anderson, Faith (Frazier) Hardin, Rose Hedges, Ashley Hedges (O. J. Zamora) and their families; and siblings, Georgeanne and Margot and his sisters’ families. He was preceded in death by his infant son, David; his parents; and sister, Maxine.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Huntsville LDS Chapel, 277 South 7400 East. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Eden, Utah.

Ward loved and supported The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worldwide Humanitarian Aid Efforts. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Church’s Humanitarian Aid Program, Catholic Charities, or to your favorite charity in his honor.
