WARREN CHAN
1974 – 2019
Warren Chan went home with the Lord early Wednesday, January 1, 2020. He was 45. He had hypertensive cardiovascular disease and was found unresponsive in his beloved car.
He leaves behind his family in California: his mother, Cynthia Chan; his sister, Karen Chan & her husband, Miguel Arroyo; and his only niece, Makena Nishikawa. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Chan who recently passed away July 1, 2019.
Warren attended school in Mid-City Los Angeles, CA starting at 24th Elementary Street School, transitioning to Mt. Vernon Junior High (now renamed Johnnie Cochran Middle School), entering Los Angeles High School temporarily and graduating High School from Poseidon School. At Poseidon, he was part of a spectacular wall mural project that was painted under an overpass by Bundy Drive Exit on the 10 Freeway. He was a self-taught skilled artist and was able to draw free hand.
He grew up in the New Wave era during the late 80s and early 90s when “GQ” attire and aqua net hairspray was the trend. He listened to Run DMC, Fresh Prince. Roxette, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Culture Club, Beastie Boys, Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. Like any typical teen, he had celebrity crushes on Alyssa Milano and Tiffany Amber Theissen.
After high school, he worked with his father and several other family members at Bank of America in Downtown Los Angeles. During this time, his family moved to Alhambra, a city in the San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County. In this city was where his love for cars began.
His most cherished hobby was fixing and modifying cars for speed and appearances. In the late 90s, he began working at TC Spoilers where he developed his passion for creating customized body kit molds to enhance import cars or any type of car that wanted a custom look. He was not only skilled in modifying cars, but also in fixing & repairing cars. In his free time, he enjoyed raiding junk yards for auto parts.
Around 2000, he decided to move to Park City, Utah to open Wabo House Restaurant. After a few years, the business sold. He then moved 20 minutes east to the city of Kamas, UT and held multiple jobs at various times working at Home Depot, Wal-Mart and Hospitality Chauffeuring (All Resort Transportation, Stein Erickson Lodges & most recently Downtowner Limousine).
He is a jack of many trades and a kid at heart. Although sometimes it may seem like he had a demeanor of a grumpy old man, all that know him will say that he can be quiet and shy at times, but that he is most definitely self-less, kind-hearted, very loving, caring, and thoughtful. Many times he was going and giving above and beyond, even sometimes forsaking himself to help others in need.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 between 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary located at 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, UT 84010. A message from Warren’s Family –
We like to thank you for thinking of our family during this difficult time. We appreciate your kind words for our beloved Warren. Knowing that you all loved him means so much to us. There is nothing more that we can ask for, but we understand that some have expressed interest in assisting with expenses. We really appreciate this gesture as no one is ever really prepared for an event like this. In Chinese culture, white is the color of mourning and monetary contributions are put into a white envelope. If you like to contribute, kindly address the white envelope with your name & address as we would like to properly acknowledge your generosity.
With Love & Gratitude:
The Chan Family
