Wayland Andrew Ashmore, 89, passed away July 10, 2016 at Davis Hospital in Layton, Utah surrounded by his family. He was born September 24, 1926 to William Raymond Ashmore Sr. and Ola Belle Baker Ashmore.
He married Viola Gilbert on March 20, 1946 in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple.
Wayland was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held various callings including Bishop and High Priest Group Leader. He was happily involved with the scouting program for many years. He served two full time missions with his wife in Indiana and Philippines Cebu.
He loved doing family history work and sharing stories and information with people throughout the world. Wayland enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and with his sons in later years.
Surviving are his 8 children, Leslie (Lloyd) Burress, Susan Ashmore, Joyce (Max) Winter, Ronald (Rosanne) Ashmore, Bruce (Debbie) Ashmore, Paul (Joyce) Ashmore, Dana (Bob) Brown, Jennifer (Myke) Loftus, more than 30 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Brother, Charles (Dora) Ashmore, and sister, Joyce Harrington.
Wayland was loved and admired by many who knew him through his work, church, and neighborhood affiliations.
Heartfelt thanks to his daughter, Dana all the time and tireless service she lovingly gave to our Father in the last year.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends may visit family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
