Wayne M. Coates

Wayne M. Coates “I Did It My Way” OGDEN – Wayne Marvin Coates, 83, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 7, 2007. Wayne was born August 12, 1923 in Eagle County, Idaho, the son of Joseph and Louise Terry Coates. Reared and educated in Ogden, Utah, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II in France and Germany, under General Patton. In 1958, he met the love of his life, Bonnie Brown. Wayne and Bonnie were married in Reno, Nevada on November 16, 1962. They made their home in South Weber, Utah, and together raised two beautiful children, Danny and Pamela. Wayne retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad as Brakeman-Conductor after 42 years and was a longtime Ogden area Realtor. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Wayne’s hobbies and interests were varied and many, but perhaps he is best known for his love of hunting, fishing, and enjoying his retirement years with his wife and family at their summer home on Bandana Ranch. He truly enjoyed his regular trips to the spa, and went as often as he could. Wayne loved spending time with his many friends and neighbors. He never met a stranger, and was truly a friend to all. He had an affinity for wildlife and horses, and always had a dog by his side. Wayne was a man’s man, with a soft side for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their numerous accomplishments gave him a huge sense of pride and an immeasurable amount of joy. Wayne is survived by his loving wife and companion of 49 years, Bonnie; their children, Danny (Mary) Coates, Woodell, AZ; and Pamela (Wallace) Raitt, Pleasant View; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Byron (Jamie) Jeppsen, (Hayden, Kenadee and Evan), Winnemucca, NV; Miranda (Rocky) Dreyer, (Camryn and Caden), San Diego, CA; Rhiannon (Nate) Rose, (Taya and Cydney), Farr West; Jordan (Jacque) Jeppsen, (Maylie and Olyvia), Roy; Jennifer (Thomas) Widdison, Berkeley, CA; and Kimber, Heather, and Mikaela Raitt, Pleasant View; sisters-in-law, Joy (Allen) Frost, Ogden; Arlene Gunderson, Roy; Laura Brown, Farr West; Marlene Brown, South Ogden; and a son by a former marriage, Jerry Amussen and his family of Houston, TX and St. George. Also surviving Wayne is his beloved dog, Cricket. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Dorothy, an infant brother, and an infant grandson. He was also preceded in death by his good hunting buddies and brothers-in-law, the Brown boys, whom he missed immensely for the remainder of his life. The family would like to give a special “thank you” to everyone at IHC Hospice, especially Tammy. A very special “thank you” goes to Wayne’s grandson, Jordan, for his constant presence, loving care, and concern for his Nana and Papa. Funeral services were private. “I’ve had a great life.” ~ Wayne Coates. Funeral Directors, Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. Email condolences to the family at: www.lindquistmortuary.com
