Wayne L. Farr
SYRACUSE – Wayne L. Farr, 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2008, at home, from cancer. He was surrounded by his family.
Wayne was born March 12, 1935, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, the son of Elvin E. and Vontella Burr Farr. He graduated from “Good Ole” Davis High School in 1953.
He lived in Layton for 19 years before moving to Syracuse where he has made his home for 14 years.
He married Karma Hill and they later divorced.
Wayne married his sweetheart and best friend Faye Thompson Farr on August 21, 1970, in Morgan. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Wayne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a bishop’s counselor, Elder’s Quorum President, ward clerk and various other callings. Also, he and his wife Faye served a 25 month Stake Mission in Layton.
Wayne worked at various jobs before working for Davis School District for 32 years as a mechanic in the bus shop. He made lasting friendships with several of his co-workers over the years.
He had a passion for building and flying Radio Controlled Model Aircraft and for old cars. He along with his son, Kenny; grandson, Andrew; and long time friend Mark Hansen were restoring his “47” Chevy Coop. He belonged to the Northern Utah Radio Controlled Aircraft Club (NURCAC) for many years and enjoyed the time spent flying his airplanes.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Faye, of 38 years; one son and four daughters; Kenneth W. Farr, Clearfield; Susan (Keith) Hodson, Clinton; Sandra (Brent) Cunningham, Ogden Canyon; Sally (Ted) Phelps, West Point; Kelly Jo Robinson, Syracuse; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. His mother, Vontella B. Farr (100 yrs), Centerville; brother, E. Lyle Farr, Greensburg, Pennsylvania; sisters, Betty (Chester) Tillman, Alachua, Florida; JaneRae Smith, Centerville; Carma (Addy) Armstrong, Salt Lake City; and Elizabeth (Lynn) Bryson, Enterprise.
He was preceded in death by his father; daughter Diane Higley and son Alan W. Farr.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 12, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse Whisper Wood Ward Chapel, 1000 W. 1700 So., with Bishop Layne Barker, officiating. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
