LAYTON a€" Wayne Louis Flandro, 89, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 7, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Frank Ernest and Emma Mable Donkin Flandro.

Wayne served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was in the Medical Corp. and had the unique job of attending to those killed in action.

Wayne married Vesta Kunz on July 21, 1942 in Malad, ID. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Wayne worked at the Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield, and Hill AFB as a civil servant, retiring in 1974. He also operated his own insurance business and later merged with Barlow Insurance in Layton. He worked in the insurance business for several decades, finally retiring at age 82.

Wayne was a wonderful husband, father, and a fantastic Papa Wayne. He was an honest and kind man with no guile, willing to come to the aid of anyone in need. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and RV-ing and supported his grandchildren in all of their endeavors.

Wayne was a devoted member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings, finishing up his home teaching last Sunday.

Wayne is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 67 years Vesta; son David Wayne (Joan), Santa Clara, UT; daughters, Carol (Dennis) Harris, Kaysville; and Bonnie (Lenard) Huff, Laie, HI; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by three brothers, Alden (Teed), Kenneth, Elmer, one sister Audrey Stevens, and one daughter Marion Flandro.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln Ward Chapel, 590 West Antelope Dr., Layton. Friends and family may gather Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.

The family suggests contributions to the Primary Children''s Medical Center.
