Wayne H. Flint
LAYTON - Wayne Haight Flint, age 90, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. His family was at his side to help him make the transition to the next life.
He was born on February 2, 1919, to Oscar Brough and Verma A. Haight Flint. He attended Layton Elementary School and graduated from Davis High School. He married Cleone Holt on November 1, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2004.
He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the Lord and had a strong testimony. He served in many church callings including Bishop, member of the Layton Stake High Council and member of the Ogden Utah College Stake High Council, Ward Clerk, Superintendent of the Young Men, and most recently as Ward Greeter. Wayne and Cleone served as Ogden Temple ordinance workers for many years. After Cleone passed away, he continued to serve in the temple, often completing six endowments a week. He loved being in and serving in the temple. Wayne and Cleone also served a mission in the Las Vegas, Nevada Mission.
He began working at Utah Power and Light Company digging holes for power poles. He joined the US Army during World War II and was a radio operator in the Army Signal Corp. Upon returning from the military, he resumed his career with the Utah Power and Light Company as an apprentice lineman. He was a troubleshooter for the Power Company in Layton for 15 years. He retired as District Manager after 42 years of service.
He loved farming and farmed his whole life. He raised pigs and cattle as well as growing sweet corn, hay and grain. He farmed until the end, cutting his last crop of hay in September 2009.
He was an extremely hard worker with a strong work ethic. He set a good example of hard work, honesty, integrity, and charity for his family and those he associated with. Thanks Dad for the example you were to us!
He is survived by his son Dennis (Linda), Newark, Delaware; daughters Marsha (Steven) Ashby, Layton; Shawna (Lowell) Johnson, Layton; Jana (Dale) Anderson, Smithfield; and sister, Elaine (George) Ronnenkamp, Layton. He has 23 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the West Layton Ward Chapel, 2120 West Gentile, Layton. Friends and family may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary 1867 North Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
