Wayne L. Helms

Wayne L. Helms, born on March 10, 1936 in Kannapolis, NC, passed away into the arms of his waiting loved ones on Wednesday, March 20, 2013.

He married the love of his life, Eva Illum on September 2, 1960, in Ogden, Utah.

Wayne served honorably for 20 years in the US Air Force, retiring in April 1974. Upon retiring from the Air Force he returned to his home state of North Carolina eventually returning to Utah in August 1979. He retired from Hill Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic in March 1993.

He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Plain City 5th Ward, serving for many years as Ward Clerk. He and Eva were sealed for time and eternity in the Logan LDS Temple in April 1963.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, four sons, Carl (Lisa), Craig (Margo), Duane (Diane) Bill (Tina); daughter-in-law, Mimi; 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Carolyn Key and Joyce Lazenby of Kannapolis, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Kemp and Mildred Viola Helms, and son, Michael.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Plain City 5th Ward Chapel, 4575 West 2125 North. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Plain City Cemetery.
