Wayne Pendergrass

LAYTON – Wayne Fletcher Pendergrass, 80, passed away October 19, 2016.

He was born October 7, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas the son of Fletcher Leo and Connie Olieta Neville Pendergrass.

Wayne married Chine Pendergrass. They were married for 52 years when she preceded him in death.  He married Carmelita Abarcar.

Wayne served our Country proudly as a Marine Corp Gunnery Sergeant with 19 ½ years of military service and supported the President’s Helicopter Squadron under the Johnson Administration. He also worked at Quantico Virginia and HAFB as a civil servant.   Wayne received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, President Unit Citation and Navy Citation while serving in the military.

He was a Christian and was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Boy’s State and Commander of the American Legion Pioneer Post 66 in Ogden.

Wayne attended George Washington University and had International Training in Communications.

He loved exercising, walking and reading.

Wayne had a big heart, was very generous and had many friends.  He was always smiling, laughing and friendly to everyone and loved all people.

He is survived by his wife Carmelita Pendergrass of three years and his son, John Pendergrass.

Services will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the Calvary Chapel Wasatch Front, 564 South 800 East, Clearfield, Utah.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road where Military Honors will be accorded.
