CLINTON – Wayne G. Simpson passed away on Friday, June 7, 2013 in Ogden, Utah.
Wayne was born in Ogden, Utah on October 10, 1917 to George V. and Gladys Hanks Simpson. He married Ruth Stoddard on January 30, 1940. She passed away in 1969. He then married Maurine Richards; they later divorced. On March 21, 1989 he married Karma Hill Farr.
Wayne graduated from Ogden High School where he was the captain of the ROTC Band. He later served in the 222nd Field Artillery Band.
Wayne retired from Hill Air Force Base as an air traffic control specialist. He owned and operated a flight school for 30 years at the Ogden Airport. For 10 years, he was Santa Claus at the Newgate and Layton Hills malls. He spent four years as a fishing and hunting outfitter in Alaska. In his later years, Wayne enjoyed making rock birdhouses and flower planters.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Karma; children Deloris Peterson, Jeanne Stites, MaryAnn and Dean Cardon, and Robert and Carol Simpson; stepchildren Susan and Keith Hodson, Kenneth Farr, Sandy and Brent Cunningham, and Sally and Ted Phelps; 18 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Fawn Shaw and Margaret Taylor.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Barber, step-daughter Diane Higley, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Clinton City Cemetery, 800 N. 750 W., Clinton. Friends may visit with family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton.
