Wayne Hyrum Swenson July 1928 a" April 2010
Wayne Hyrum Swenson passed away Friday, April 16, 2010 at his home in Bountiful, Utah.
Wayne was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 26, 1928, the son of George E. and Venice Smith Swenson. He was the third of four children. Wayne grew up in Salt Lake and attended South High School where he was active in sports. In addition to excelling scholastically, he played on both the basketball and baseball teams. He especially loved baseball and played shortstop on both the 1944 and 1946 State Baseball Championship Teams.
Wayne served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1948-1950. He was assigned to the Northwestern States Mission and served in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. It was in Seattle, Washington that he met his eternal mate and one true love, Margo Fortney. They were married in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on August 30, 1950. Margo passed away on October 18, 1988. Together they had five children; Linda (Terry) Portrey, David (Tammy) Swenson, Keith (Julie) Swenson, Sharon (Doug) Hodge, and Scott (Linda) Swenson. They were blessed with 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Wayne was drafted in the Korean War in November 1950 and served in Korea until his discharge in August 1952 as a staff sergeant. He joined the Army Reserves and served for 13 years attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. Wayne faithfully served his Heavenly Father in many callings including two Bishoprics, Elders Quorum President, and Sunday School President. During this time he also served for over 20 years in the Salt Lake and Bountiful LDS Temples.
He is survived by his children David, Keith, Sharon and Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margo, daughter Linda, brothers Ralph and Lynn, and sister Myrle.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Bountiful 20th Ward Chapel, 102 E. 1400 S. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Friday at the church from 9:30a"10:30 am. prior to services. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
