Wayne Thomas Wells
1931-2017
Wayne Thomas Wells passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 1, 2017.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 7, 1931 to Sidney Norfolk and Ruby Miller Wells. He grew up in Salt Lake City, the oldest of 5 children. He graduated from South High School, where he was a member of the cheer squad, in 1948.
He married Margaret Ford, the love of his life, on April 9, 1954 and together they had five of the most beautiful and bright children. A year later they bought their first home in Bountiful and over the next 62 years grew their family to include 12 grandchildren and 16 great grand children (with another on the way). He was truly devoted to his family and they to him. He showed his love by teaching his family to fish, never missing a holiday event, and calling up his kids and grandkids just to say hello.
Dad was a veteran of the Korean War. As part of the Utah National Guard, he was assigned to the 151st Fighter Squadron and sent to Bentwater R.A.F. Station near Woodbridge, England. He later made his career as an electrical contractor. He served as President of the NECA Intermountain Chapter, National Vice President NECA District 8, was elected to the Academy of Electrical Contracting, and in 1984 was awarded the prestigious Coggeshall Award from the National Electrical Contractors Association.
Dad was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served diligently in many callings including High Councilman, Elders Quorum President and Bishop of the Bountiful 54th Ward. He and Margaret served an honorable mission to Auckland, New Zealand. He loved the people of New Zealand and was proud to serve in the country of his Great Grandmother’s birth.
Wayne will be remembered for his impeccable sense of style, his unconditional love and acceptance, and his ever-present sense of humor. We will remember him smiling and sun-kissed, fishing from the banks of Flaming Gorge and the surrounding reservoirs. He was the best dad, a wonderful grandpa, and a doting great-grandpa, too.
His children wish to thank his sweetheart, our amazing mom, for the tender and gentle care she gave to dad over the years. Their devotion to one another has been and will continue to be a source of inspiration and comfort to us.
Wayne is survived by his wife Margaret, children: Vicki (Dave) Belnap, Christine (Kevin) Jorgensen, Suzanne (Brad) Larsen, Jeff (Rachel) Wells and Julie Wells. 12 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. A sister, Jean Burt (Verl) and a brother Sid Wells (Barbara). He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Carolyn Wells Paul and a brother Randall Lynn Wells.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Mueller Park 8th Ward Chapel , 1320 E. 1975 S. Bountiful, Utah. Friends may visit family Wednesday, July 5th from 6-8 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N 400 E. and Thurs. from 9:30-10:30 am at the Church prior to services.
