W. David Lord
1929-2017
Walter David Lord, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 after a valiant fight against cancer.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 5, 1929 to Walter and Blanche Rebecca Stark Lord. He was the oldest of six children. He graduated from West High School, class of ’46.
He was a lover of the outdoors, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping and skiing – especially with family members and friends.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he loved the Lord and gladly served in many ward and stake callings. His first mission was in the Eastern States Mission ’50-’52. He married Gloria Joan Saxey on April 3, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple and was drafted into the Army ten days later. The next two years found them in California for signal school and then stationed in Germany. After returning home, he entered the U of U. After graduating he worked in various electronic companies, but retired from Thiokol. After retiring he served with his wife in the England Manchester Mission ’94-’96, Martins Cove Mission 2002, Inner City Mission 1999-2001, Church and Family History Mission. He worked in the Bountiful Temple until poor health made it impossible to continue.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, five children; Greg (Janet), Kenny (Kim), Carrie (Scott) Isakson, Rick (Michelle) and Mitch (Pam); 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brothers James and Philip Lord and sister Dianne Shaw.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday January 6, 2018 at the Orchard 3rd Ward Chapel, 261 E. Center St., North Salt Lake, Utah where friends may visit family Friday, Jan.5th from 6-8 pm and from 9:30-10:30 am Sat. prior to services. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park, Bountiful, Utah. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.
