Wendell Equilla Hansen
PORTLAND, Ore. a" Wendell Equilla Hansen was born June 18, 1919 in Ogden, Utah to Estella Nelson and Equilla Ferdinand Hansen. He passed away on October 6, 2010 at his beautiful home in Portland, Oregon, where he had lived for more than 60 years.
A voracious reader, Wen was a studied commentator on all political issues. He was an accomplished equestrian, beautiful swimmer, avid fisherman and an ace at tennis. Wen had a wide circle of friends from all over the world and enjoyed fine dining and festive events with friends and family. Wendell was a gentleman.
As part of the greatest generation, Wen served his country in World War II in the Philippines, exhibiting great heroism and suffering tremendously as a P.O.W. in Japan and China. He learned from those experiences to always look forward to a better future and he was a great example of that principle to all who knew him.
Wendell graduated from USC and had a successful career with the Hiram-Walker Company.
He is loved and survived by his brother-in-law, Eugene Hall, a close cousin, Eleanore Payne, other cousins, nieces, and nephews, his "step-brother", Arnie Ferrin and family, a favorite niece, Louanne Ferrin Davis, and by his foster children, Monkgol Teanugul and Katsunori Shima and families, who served and loved him, especially near the end of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Hall.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary.
