Wendy Dee VanDeGraaff Stevenson "AUNT POOH"
HOOPER a" Our beloved mom, grandma, aunt and sister left us on Sunday, June 8, 2008 after a short but hard battle with Takayasu disease. Wendy was born September 1, 1962, the first child of Arie and Valeria Farley VanDeGraaff in Ogden, Utah. Wendy was raised in Hooper and attended Hooper Elementary, Sandridge Jr. and was a graduate in 1980 of Roy High. Wendy married Hollis R. Stevenson on September 15, 1995. Wendy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints LDS Church.
Wendy has one son, Dodge VanDeGraaff, and she was so excited when her first grandchild was born, Lyrica June, on March 19, 2008. Wendy loved being a Grandma and would sit for hours and hold Lyrica.
Aunt Pooh loved children a" they were her greatest joy. Often Aunt Pooh would bring home a car full of kids. Even when she was urged to slow down she still wanted kids to be around her. Wendy had an amazing amount of love for children. She has left an amazing impact on her son and each of her nieces and nephews whom she loved with her whole heart. Aunt Pooh''s love and generosity has touched many lives. She was the champion of the underdog.
Wendy had been employed as a classroom aid in first grade at Country View Elementary for 19 years. She loved the children that she taught, and she believed that they could accomplish great things. Many times past students would stop her and tell her how much she had helped them and how they enjoyed being in her class. Wendy would also tutor students in the summer.
Aunt Pooh loved to crochet and would spend hours crocheting blankets for her "kids". She was also a perfectionist when it came to her crocheting and she would tear apart a finished blanket if she found a flaw in it.
Wendy is survived by her husband Hollis, son Dodge, daughter-in-law Charisse, and her granddaughter Lyrica June. Also surviving are her nephews Trevor, Trent and Travis Bertoch, and Brian Saunders; her nieces Valeria Contreras, KayDee Saunders, Eva-Marie Avis and her "Heta" Tressa Bertoch; her beloved sisters Tracy Bertoch, Kerry (Clifton) Sawyer, Cassy (Brian) Saunders, all of Ogden; Vicky Avis and her brother Arie VanDeGraaff III both of Hooper; and her cousins Melinda and Jeremy Shupe. Wendy had many aunts, uncles, cousins, stepchildren and in-laws that will miss her greatly.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law James Bertoch, her grandparents, her cousin Launa Stokes, and her father-in-law Thomas Stevenson.
At Aunt Pooh''s request, no black should be worn at any of her services.
