Wiley Antone Fowers passed away on Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2013 surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born on April 28, 1922 in Hooper, Utah to Levi Harold and Cora Christensen Fowers. He grew up working with his three brothers and his father on the family farm in Hooper. He graduated from Weber High School where he was active in FFA, boxing and wrestling. He married Lorraine Johnston on April 22, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary last April.
Wiley spent his entire life farming and raising beef cattle in Hooper, many of those years in partnership with his son, Kurt. Wiley was a hard worker and a visionary for the land he tilled and loved.
His passionate interest in horses began as a young boy and continued to his death. He was always on the lookout for another quarter horse to buy and love. He thought he could never have enough horses around. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with life-long friends. His favorite place to fish was Clark Canyon Reservoir in Montana and his yearly trip to Hebgen Lake, Montana with extended family and many friends has become a legacy that will continue on forever. He loved to tell a great fishing or hunting story and friends and family were always entertained by his tales.
Grandpa always had a silly story for the grandkids and great-grandkids and his quick wit would always make them laugh. It was an unexpected sense of humor from such a quiet man.
He has been active in Hooper and Weber County Farm Bureau organizations, Hooper Water Improvement Board, Weber County Soil Conservation District and Beef Feeders'' Association.
Wiley truly loved his family and diligently worked on their behalf. He leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Lorraine; their children, Kurt (Marsha) Fowers, Leann (Dennis) Belnap, and Jelean (Brad) Beus; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vernon and Emerson Fowers.
