Willa M Payne Spinks

Willa M. Spinks LAYTON – Our precious and beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, was suddenly called home to our Lord on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. Mom was born on June 30, 1929 to Guy and Beatrice (Bates) Payne in Leavenworth, Kansas. At an early age she went to live and go to school at Holy Epiphany School in Leavenworth. This school was operated by the Oblate Sisters of Providence. At age 15 she came to Utah to join her dad who was working for the railroad. She also met and married our dad James E. Spinks. Together they raised their seven children. Mom worked very hard all her life. She retired from Hill AFB after 25 plus years in 1993. Retirement did not slow mom down. For 10 years she was an extra on the television series Touched by An Angel. She was featured as a main character in one episode as “Lola” where she played an elderly lady in a wheelchair. Other shows you could see mom in were: I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause, Independence Day, the series Everwood and Promise Land and was a singing Christmas ornament in the movie Coming of Age. She is in a movie Waiting for Forever with her son Ed and in a commercial this past November for a Foundation For a Better Life. To her family she was always a STAR. Mom also enjoyed (as she called it) bargain hunting, working in her yard and vegetable garden, playing Phase 10, walking every morning in the mall with her son Ed, and spending time with her kids and grandkids. Mom is survived by her four sons Edward, Irven, Arthur (Joe), Tracy (Carol) and daughter Bernadette, her sister Cora Ramey and honorary daughter Gloria Boston. Her grandchildren: Tina (Richard) Milewski, Kristen Williams, Tonia (Brian) Druce, Willa M. Kemp, Caroline Spinks, Crystal Oden, Nichole Weaver, Shaleigh Spinks, Edward Spinks Jr., Bernadette (Migel), her great-grandchildren: Jarome (Elaine) Spinks, many nieces and nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents Guy and Beatrice, her brother Guy Payne Jr., love of her life Jimmy Spinks, two sons Anthony Lee Spinks and Iven Jerome Spinks. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 9 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 So. Chapel Street, Layton, with Monsignor Victor Bonnell officiating. Friends and family may call Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Prayer service at 7 p.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
