W. Deloy Archibald
KAYSVILLE a" W. (William) Deloy Archibald, 73, died unexpectedly on September 3, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was born in Clarkston, Utah on July 19, 1936; son of Leland H. and Edith Agnes Godfrey Archibald.
He graduated from North Cache High School and LDS Seminary in 1954. He was a champion wrestler. He played basketball and baseball for the Clarkston LDS Ward.
On October 7, 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, NaDene Griffin in the Logan LDS Temple. He had four wonderful sons. He also had six foster children.
He graduated from Utah State University in 1965 and got a Master''s Degree from the University of Utah in 1973.
He was employed by various farmers in Clarkston, for five years at Thiokol and for 35 years with the State of Utah Juvenile Court, retiring in January 2000. He served on the board of the Davis County Mental Health and the Davis County Private Industry Council. He was awarded as one of the outstanding state employees in Utah by Governor Michael Leavitt.
Following retirement he served a Church Education Mission in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Lexington, Kentucky. He has served in various callings in the LDS Church: Priest Quorum Advisor, Athletic Director, YM President, Counselor in the Bishopric, Counselor in the Young Adult Branch, High Councilman, Bountiful Temple Ordinance worker. He had a strong testimony that families are forever and of the Law of Tithing. He was a great home teacher, especially to the single sisters and their children in the ward. He taught their sons how to fix household problems or cars, etc.
He was taught to work at an early age, passing the value of hard work on to his sons. He was a jack of all trades and was always willing and ready to meet anyone''s needs. He was loved by all who knew or associated with him.
He was a wonderful grandfather, loved and respected dearly by his 24 grandchildren and his seven great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, his children: (Arch) Blair (Karen) Archibald of West Weber; Blake (DeAnn) of Northport, AL; Cory Jay (Sandy) of Wichita, KS; and Ivan Nelson (Danielle) of Albuquerque, NM; his brothers, Ronald, Vernen, Lee and Keith, his mother-in-law, Ruth W Griffin, Logan; and his Uncle Jesse (Doreen) Godfrey of Clarkston.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister Gwenevere, two brothers: Delon and Clarence.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 7, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 200 South 600 East in Kaysville, UT. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the church.
He will be buried in the Clarkston, Utah Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
