William M. Baker
OGDEN – William Michael Baker, 89, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the George W. Wahlen Veterans Home.
He was born June 20, 1921 in Trenton, Nebraska, to Glen and Gladys Sharp Baker. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1939.
Bill met the love of his life, Darlene, while attending public schools in Trenton and the two were married in Washington D.C. in 1943, while Bill was on leave during World War II. When Bill returned home from service with the U.S. Navy, the two were hardly ever apart and together they raised three children.
During World War II, he served aboard the USS Alograb, driving a landing craft during the invasion of North Africa. He also served on the USS Willett during the Pacific Campaign as a Fire/Controlman 1st Class. He was a proud veteran.
He was a member of the American Legion for 67 years.
Bill was a farmer and worked as a procurement agent for Hill Air Force Base for many years.
Bill and Darlene enjoyed a long, happy retirement doing a lot of traveling enjoying travels to the Oregon and Washington coasts. They also enjoyed several cruises.
Surviving are one son and two daughters, Lynn (Kristy) Baker, Layton; Janice Kelly, and Donna Wood (Mark Hansen), both of Ogden; three grandchildren, Kristen (Kevin) Hadley, Breeden (Tyler) Scofield, Jake Wood; and three great-grandchildren, Annakai Hadley, Mikah Hadley and Sophia Hadley.
Preceding Bill in death were his wife, parents, one brother and one sister.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Family will visit with friends at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
