William P. Barker
OGDEN – William “Bill” Powell Barker, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at his home at Emeritus Estates in Ogden.
Bill was born June 1, 1920, to Henry and Sarah “Sadie” Powell Barker in Ogden. He graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber College.
On June 26, 1941, he married his sweetheart, Marjorie Ann Dieu, in Ogden. Their vows were solemnized on June 26, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They spent 67 happy years together.
He worked for Utah Power and Light Company for 43 years, both in Ogden and Salt Lake City. He also spent many years as a self-employed painting contractor, painting many homes and businesses in the Ogden area.
Bill was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army Air Force.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings in the Pleasant View 1st Ward. He was a former member of the Pleasant View 4th Ward and the Lorin Farr 7th Ward. He and his wife served in the California Arcadia LDS Mission.
Bill’s interests included gardening, growing roses, helping his family and neighbors, and cruising with his friends and family to many different ports.
Surviving are his loving wife, Marjorie, of Ogden; his children and their spouses, Mesa and Jim Ipson, Pleasant View; Nancy and Lloyd Olsen, Marilyn and Douglas Stanger, and Bill and Kathy Barker, all of Kaysville; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and one granddaughter.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Emeritus Estates and Legacy Hospice for their loving care of Bill. Their kindness to Bill and his family is greatly appreciated.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant View Stake Center, 2900 North 1000 West, Pleasant View.
Family and friends may call at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the Stake Center 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden, Utah.
