William (Bill) Louis Brimley peacefully departed this world at the age of 92 on June 1st, 2024 to be reunited with his sweetheart Carol. Bill's journey was one of dedication, service, and unwavering love for his family and community.
Born on May 3,1932 in Salt Lake City Utah, his younger years were marked by an innate curiosity and love of learning. Due to the untimely death of his father when Bill was only three years old, he was sent to live with his maternal Grandparents Louis and Mary Nielson in Leamington Utah. He worked hard on the farm for his uncles and learned numerous skills. He enjoyed nature and was always the lover of a good book, new scientific discovery or a joke to share. He attended Delta High school and enjoyed playing the trumpet in the high school band. His pursuit of education led him to study at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. During this time he met his sweetheart Carol Harwood and they were married in the Salt Lake City temple on August 7, 1953.
Bill and Carol originally moved to Kearns Utah and started their family which became the center of their world and meant everything to them. Bill is survived by his six children: Pam (Danny) Bridenstine, Mary (Steve) Cobb, Karen (Kory) Larsen, Mike Brimley (Nancy) Susanne Brimley "Sis", and Kathleen (Brandon)Parke. Bill was a fun, loving and devoted grandpa to his 25 grandchildren and their spouses and his 42+ great-grandchildren. Bill appreciated his family relationships and has one living sister Diane King Jensen. He was preceded in death by his father Wallace Gerald Brimley, mother Bardella Nielson Brimley King, brother Micheal King, brother Gerald (Jerry) Brimley, sister Marilyn Brimley Laraway, sister Carole King, son-in-law Steve Cobb and his beloved spouse Carol Harwood Brimley.
Bill’s love of learning and trying new things led to his endeavor of starting his own business Brimley Repair Service, through which he served the community as an appliance repair professional for over 35 years. From repairing refrigerators to fixing washing machines, Bill approached each service call with precision and dedication, earning the trust and admiration of his customers whom he treated like family.
In addition to work, Bill loved all things fun from building remote controlled model airplanes to launching rocket ships that he made from a kit. He loved to take motor cycle rides, go swimming or for a walk to the park. He loved his pets and specifically enjoyed taking his dog Buddy for a walk. He most of all appreciated a good time with his children and grandchildren and his family truly was the heart of all that Bill did each day. He loved spending time outdoors with them, boating, hiking, taking walks, sitting on the back patio listening to Johnny Cash or John Denver watching the grandkids play. Grandpa Bill always was known for his freezer filled with Creamies or ice cream and he would never pass up a chance to share a root beer float. Bill's kindness and compassion were truly what set him apart and he would always lend a hand or a smile and wave to neighbors and friends as well as the strangers on the street. He was also known for telling jokes and despite getting older, he always seemed to be able to recall a joke to share.
Bill and Carol later moved to Layton Utah in 1962 where they raised their children and were active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and in their community. In 2016, after Carol passed, Bill remained in their home for a number of years and was quite independent. In 2021, he chose to move to Fairfield Village Assisted Living center where he enjoyed the companionship of many new friends and acquaintances. His involvement in the daily activities and meals were the highlight of his days as well as phone calls and visits from his family and friends. He appreciated the kindness of all the staff and we as his family extend our heartfelt appreciation to their dedicated service and care for him.
As we say goodbye to our sweet father, grandfather and friend, we do so with heavy hearts but also with gratitude for the countless ways he enriched our lives and so many of the lives of others. We also are grateful knowing he was looking forward to that happy reunion in heaven with all those loved ones who had gone before him. His zest for life, legacy of love, dedication to serving others and quest for gaining knowledge will continue to inspire us for generations to come.
