PEORIA, Ariz. - On Thursday, June 25, 2009, our father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, Bill Barnes, passed on to a place where there is no pain.

Bill was born in Ogden, Utah, Nov. 1, 1950 to Emmy Lou (Barnes) Burnham and Jack S Barnes. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1969. He married his high school sweetheart, Geri Norris, in October of 1969 and they had a beautiful daughter, Brandi. They later divorced.

Bill enlisted with the U.S. Army in November of 1969 and immediately left for boot camp and helicopter pilot training at Fort Rucker, AL. Immediately following pilot training he was transferred to Vietnam. Bill was a highly decorated helicopter pilot and member of the 1st Air Cavalry Division of the Army. The 1st Air Cavalry was one of the most decorated units during the Vietnam War. Bill was awarded the Silver Star, one of America''s highest military decorations for valor under enemy fire. Bill served his country with the Army for 20 years but spent his life as a patriot. He retired from the Army as a CW4 in 1990. Bill''s last post was in Phoenix, AZ where he remained after his retirement. He worked for Park College as an administrator and Liberty National.

He is survived by his daughter, Brandi (George IV) Rodrick, grandchildren, GW and Baylee Rodrick, Kay-Cee (Zachary) Fielding and her daughter Boston, mother Emmy Lou Burnham, five sisters Diana (John) Adrian, Jeannie (Gene) Hathenbruck, Sandy (Kit) Nield, Deb (Rand) Stonehocker, Connie (Joe) Piccolo, step mother Bette Barnes, five step sisters Susan Willden, Janice (Bert) Casper, Deanne Muir, Debra (Ken) Hall, Shallon Kimber, two step brothers Byron (Shirley) Burnham and Dean (Debra) Burnham.

He was preceded in death by his father Jack Barnes, brother Bruce Barnes, his stepfather Robert Burnham and step sister Teri Nelson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd Ogden, UT.

Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
