SYRACUSE – William (Bill) Joseph Cardall passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2015 surrounded by his beloved family.
He was born May 18, 1942 in San Francisco, California to Marvin Joseph Cardall and Elda Marie Nalder. His mother often commented on the childrearing practices of the day, when you fed a baby every 4 hours, regardless of whether sleepy or hungry. Bill didn’t outgrow those 2 a.m. feedings, and decades later you could set your watch by his rustlings in the kitchen.
Bill grew up in the Layton area. Despite having only three close friends (Roy, Leroy, and Monty) he graduated from Davis High School. Even when all of his children could harmonize the school hymn from Roy High, he remained a devoted and lifelong Davis Dart!
On August 24, 1962, Bill married Linda Carroll. They were later divorced. Bill married Theresa Allen on June 18, 1966. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple. They were later divorced. On February 14, 1997, Bill married Marilyn Beckstead, deceased. He married Joyce Davidson on May 19, 2006.
Bill worked hard to provide for his family, spending the majority of his career as a sheet metal worker at Hill Air Force Base.
He was a member of the LDS Church and a faithful home teacher.
Bill loved cars, especially Studebakers and Fords. He was a great mechanic and always willing to help you fix your car, gently reminding you that you wouldn’t be needing repairs if your car had a “little blue oval.”
Bill’s favorite baseball team was the Los Angeles Dodgers and he enjoyed a friendly rivalry with anyone that wasn’t a Dodgers fan.
Bill enjoyed woodworking and loved creating gifts for his family and friends.
Bill’s greatest legacy was his family. He often commented on how he had the greatest kids and grandkids in the world. He loved being with his family and created opportunities to be together… whether hiding Pop Rocks in the bushes at a picnic or taking his entire family to Disneyland. He was a “way super” husband, dad, and grandpa and his example of love and service changed our lives.
Bill is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children; Carol Keller, Sheila (James) Bunn, Cindy (Paul) Bouwhuis, Curt (Amy) Cardall, Christi (Chad) Lunt, Craig (Kim) Cardall, Carrie (Travis) Rodak, Chad (Chris) Cardall, and Cami (Matt) Liggett; his 27 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, his siblings; Betty (Terry) Charlesworth, Kathy Butler, Marilyn (Chuck) Miles, and Richard Cardall.
He is also survived by Joyce’s loving family, including her children; Colleen, Renee, Cheryl, Patricia, Sandra, Carla, Allison, Allan, Nikole, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his sister; Linda, sons; Christopher and Carl, and his parents.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 Fairfield Road, Layton. Friends may visit with family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
