William Richard Egbert

Dr. William R. Egbert, 86, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 with his family by his side. Bill was born on April 1, 1927 in Tetonia, Idaho to Robert A. and Alice Strong Egbert. He lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho and attended Lincoln Elementary School, where his father was principal and his teacher in seventh and eighth grade. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1945. He played point guard on the varsity basketball team all three years and as a senior celebrated a state championship. Bill also played one year of basketball at Ricks College.

After high school, Bill joined the Navy and was stationed in Guam. He then served an LDS Mission to the Southern States. Following his mission, he attended Ricks College and then graduated from BYU in 1952. He married Verna McDonald on August 13, 1951 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He attended George Washington University Medical School and graduated in 1956. He then completed a one-year internship at the LDS Hospital and an additional two years at the Salt Lake General Hospital specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. He was in private practice for 32 years at the Ogden Women''s Clinic and retired in 1993. He enjoyed not only his practice, but always appreciated his patients and delivered over 9,000 babies. After retirement, he served in the community as a volunteer physician at the Ogden Rescue Mission.

In the LDS Church he served as an Elder''s Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Stake High Council, Bishop, Stake Young Men''s President and with his wife Verna directed the All-Church Dance Festivals from 1967-1973. Bill and Verna also served missions together in Albania, China, Temple Square and the Ogden inner city. He loved to travel and was able to visit many countries including Europe, Asia, and Central and South America.

Bill loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them making lasting memories.

Bill is survived by his wife, Verna McDonald Egbert; and their five children, Cary (Doug) Wood, Layton; Greg (Lauri) Egbert, Sandy; Jill (Bryson) Smith, Farmington; Ric (Cami) Egbert, South Ogden; and Jan (Alan) Campbell, Fruit Heights. He was the proud grandfather of twenty-six and great-grandfather of twenty-three.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Weber Heights Stake Center, 1401 Country Hills Drive, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.

A special thanks to all the caretakers at McKay-Dee Hospital ICU who provided care for our sweet father.
