William L. Garner
SOUTH OGDEN – William Leonard Garner, 82, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Promise Specialty Hospital in Salt Lake City.
He was born April 26, 1926 in Ogden, a son of Leonard Frank and Edith Urie Lemmon Garner.
On October 9, 1945, Bill married Marilyn Harris in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
He served his country during World War II and the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army. He obtained the rank of Full Colonel with the Army Reserves.
Bill was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various callings including Bishop.
He was an educator, principal and superintendent of the Ogden City Schools. He graduated with a PhD in education from the University of Utah.
Bill enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn, of South Ogden; three sons and one daughter, David (Marilyn) Garner, Larry (Marilyn) Garner, Jon (Holly) Garner, and Judy (Bart) Wolthuis, all from the Ogden area; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gene Garner.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley 4th Ward Chapel, 5640 South 850 East, South Ogden.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday at the Ward Chapel 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Huntsville City Cemetery.
