HARRISVILLE a€" Saturday afternoon, September 29, 2007, William V. Godfrey passed quietly into the next life after suffering injuries in an automobile accident.

Bill was universally loved and was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He will be missed profoundly by those left behind.

Born May 18, 1940, Bill spent almost his entire life in Harrisville. After serving an LDS Mission in France for 30 months, Bill married Jeanne Jennings in 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple and together they had six children. Heartbreak entered his life at the passing of two of his beloved daughters, Malinda and Rebecca. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, and children, Jason (Hyunjoo), Matthew (Monica), Deborah (Daryn) Ashby, Laura (Nathanial) Beck and Kent and Heidi Gibbons. He has 15 grandchildren with six grandchildren born to Malinda''s husband Kent, and wife Heidi.

He is also survived by his siblings, Jesse (Marge) Godfrey, Lois (Thurm) Hutzley, Louise (Dale) Call, Allen (Jean) Godfrey, Wallace (Ann) Godfrey and Eleanor (LaGrand) Hadley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, and brother, Russell Godfrey.

Bill spent most of his professional life in insurance and also served his country with the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He made significant civic contributions on the Harrisville City Council for 12 years and as Mayor for four years. He served on the boards of North View Fire Department, Weber Sewer District, Weber Area Council of Government and for 22 years on the Board of Bona Vista Water where he served a term as Chairman. He was an ardent advocate for the City of Harrisville and put his heart and soul into serving the community that had been a part of him for most of his life.

Bill''s legacy of devotion to his family, sacrifice for his community, love and knowledge of the scriptures and quiet perseverance has touched many and will be memorialized at funeral services held Wednesday, October 3 at 11 a.m. at the Harrisville Stake Center, 113 Childs Avenue.

Friends may call at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Tuesday, October 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday at the Stake Center from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Plain City Cemetery.
