William Sterling Henderson concluded his mortal experience on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, in Brigham City, Utah. William was born December 13, 1955 in Raleigh, North Carolina, the eighth of nine children born to Nellie Jane Taylor and Francis Marion Henderson. By the age of four, it became evident that William could not speak and developmental challenges would influence the rest of his life. Though his speech never developed, he was animated and active as a child and adult. William loved spinning the wheels of inverted bicycles and playing in water. He enjoyed hugging his mother’s head and any pretty girl as well. He delighted in walking with his Dad and brother David. William expressed his joy with an infectious high-pitched laughter that delighted his family and all who knew him.
In about 1979, when William was 23, he was moved into a group home in Utah. In that setting, he enjoyed many outings and activities with loving caregivers. His mother and father visited him regularly after moving to Utah in 1989 and brought William, Norma and Julia to their home for visits and their favorite foods. His brother David was appointed legal guardian of Julia, Norma and William and he maintained brotherly bonds with them for many years.
William was preceded in death by his mother Nellie Jane Taylor Henderson, sister Julia Ann Henderson, and father Francis Marion Henderson
All in his family have pondered what William might have become with full mental faculties. We marvel at his loving and gracious soul and fondly anticipate a reunion with him in the realm of the spirits.
