WILLIAM HAROLD KERSHAW

August 10, 1950 ~ July 1, 2014

A miracle occurred as our husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, William Harold Kershaw, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the age of 63. He can now breathe, walk, hear, and see. Hal was born August 10, 1950, in Ogden, Utah, the first born to Mary Talue Wilson and George Fredrick Kershaw. He graduated from Bonneville High School in 1968. On May 21, 1969, Hal married Marsha Hoerner in Fairborn, Ohio. He joined the US Navy in January of 1969, reaching the rank of SM3 and serving in Vietnam and the West Coast area around San Francisco for 11 years.

After discharge, he went to work at Utah Test and Training Range as a Federal Police Officer from 1979 until the fall of 1995. He was a member of Washington Terrace Lion’s Club, National Rifle Association, and Protective Order of Police. He worked as a security officer for several years and as a flagman along roads throughout Utah, Wyoming and Idaho. He played Santa for several years at various malls, helped Toy’s for Tots, collected food boxes, donations, and helped wrap presents at Christmas time.

He was certified member of the Boy Scouts of America Alumni Family and was awarded numerous Citizens of the Year awards for serving on the Board of Directors of Citizens Committee for the right to bear arms. He was on the Board of Trustees of the American Federation of Police and State president. He had numerous Bachelor degrees from different colleges throughout his life and was a published poet and impromptu story teller.

He always supported his wife’s work in Girl Scouts; even taking the troop camping and being her security guard for Day Camps for many years. He worked on John Wayne’s boat and had beers with him. He loved old movies and anything dealing with history, especially the Civil War, which was instilled by his grandfather, Junius H. Kershaw. He loved to read continuously until his sight was giving him problems.

William is survived by his wife, Marsha; his son, Robert Kershaw; daughters, Marina Simmons, Ogden; Tamara Martin, Ogden; Droxine Andersen, Tooele; his mother, Mary Talue Kershaw; brother, Mark Kershaw; six grandchildren, and several adopted grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, brother, sister, grandson and nephew.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale.
