William E. Mueller was born in Beloit, Wisconsin to William E. Mueller Sr. and Alice Campbell. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1927, at the ripe old age of one year. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1944.
Having already enlisted in the U. S. Navy, he left after graduating for boot camp in San Diego, where he served two years in the South Pacific aboard a floating dry dock. He returned home and studied at Arizona State University.
William married Marjorie Culling in 1947, later divorced. In 1947 he went to work for what was then Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Company in Phoenix. In 1962 he was transferred to Denver, CO where he worked until retiring in 1982.
He met Sandra and they were married in the salt Lake Temple in December 1981. They moved to Layton, Utah in 1982 and Bill worked for a few years at a cable company that put in underground cable T.V. He then worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a custodian for 15 years.
He loved sports. He bowled for many years, played golf and a little tennis. Pitched against Phil Rizzuto while in the navy. He said he wanted to keep the home run ball that Rizzuto hit off of him but it had gone too far out in the ocean. Bill later became addicted to running. He started running at the age of 45 and continued until age 70. Finishing his first marathon was a dream come true for him. Bill had a great sense of humor, he always knew just what to say at the right time, he loved people and loved to make them laugh.
Bill served in several callings in the church and had said he enjoyed being ward clerk. He also served a Church Service Mission at the bishop’s storehouse and home storage.
