William "Bill" Ernest Noker
SOUTH OGDEN - On Monday, November 22, 2010, our dear husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandfather and best friend, "Bill", passed away peacefully surrounded by his family from complications of liver cancer.
Bill was born November 1, 1937 in Ogden, to Leona Nelson and Alvin William Noker. He attended Ogden City Schools where he attended Ogden High School. He graduated from Ben Lomond High Schools second graduating class of 1955. He played all sports in high school and was a state champion wrestler. He attended Weber College and was a member of the Golden Gloves Boxing team, which made his mom and grandmother very nervous.
Bill married Lynda Lavender on August 27, 1958. They had three children, Shelly (Frank) Fain, Bill (Lori) Noker, Dana Noker, five grandchildren, Casey, Prescilla, Preston, Samantha, William and one great-grandson, Braxton. Bill and Lynda later divorced.
Bill met Suzi Fowler in 1984. They were married on June 20, 1986. He had two stepchildren, Lynne (Jerome) McDermott, and Gary Fowler.
Bill was an avid sportsman. He played in recreation leagues for many years and was on several champion leagues. One of his proudest championships was when he recruited Larry H. Miller to pitch on his team that took the championship in Rock Island, Illinois. He coached little league baseball, football, and basketball in South Ogden and was proud to have coached Tom Chambers. Bill loved fantasy sports and he was the "Best Bookie" around. He enjoyed bowling, played on many leagues, and bowled a perfect 300 game. He also loved camping, fishing and hunting with his family and friends. His favorite place was going to mom and dad''s cabin at "the Coal Mine" in Granite Creek, Jackson, Wyoming.
Bill was a machinist for Williamsons, Marquardt, Thiokol, and Autoliv. While he was employed with Thiokol he went on TDY to many interesting places including the Antarctic for three months. He tested rockets for Thiokol and had some very interesting stories to tell of his experiences there and at the Great Salt Lake. He also served with the Utah National Guard for many years.
Following his retirement, he spent many days fishing with his brothers Roy and Alvin, his brothers-in-law, Jim and Bob, and best friend Ray Brown. They were always after "the Big One" at all the reservoirs.
Bill and Suzi loved to travel in their motor home and visited many National and State Parks (so he could fish). He was a connoisseur of fine foods and could tell you the best places to eat. He loved to get together with his sisters, brothers and cousin Donna on Wednesdays for a day of pinochle and dinner at each other''s homes. When he learned he had stage four cancer he said, "Well, I just have to play the cards I''m dealt". He also enjoyed beginning his day watching Animal Planets Orangutan Island at 4 a.m.
We will all miss Bill very much. The family wants to thank Jennifer, Matt and Sheryl from Inspiration Hospice Care for the loving care and kindness they gave him. Thank you to Dana and Shelly for the devotion and love to your dad and taking such good care of him during his illness. Thanks also to the nurses at Washington Terrace Health Services, Robert, Tony and Michelle, for the love and care they provided to Bill.
Bill is survived by his wife, Suzi, children, stepchildren and grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Alvin (Stella) Noker, Lee Gentry, LeRoy (ViAnn) Noker, Carole (Jim) Linford, numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister-in-law Lora Lee Noker, brother-in-law Bob Gentry, one nephew and three nieces.
