William H. Shumway
William H. Shumway, 83, passed away Friday, September 04, 2009. Bill was born January 22, 1926 in Lyons, Kansas, the son of Floyd and Ella Michaelis Shumway. He married Wanda Stott on April 1, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They had seven children.
Bill loved spending time with his family, camping, fishing, and working on antique cars. He was a member of the LDS Church and had served in various positions over the years. He was employed as an aircraft mechanic at Hill Air Force Base for 40 years. He also worked several years at Roy Stuart''s Chevron in Layton.
Bill was able to make many friends and enjoyed spending time with all of them. He will be missed by all he knew including "The Breakfast Bunch," "Study Group," and "Over The Hill Bunch."
Survived by his loving wife Wanda, five sons: W. Steven (Karen) of Rocklin, CA; Leonard (Peggy) of Genola, UT; Jeff (DeeAnn) of Clinton, UT; Adam (Lisa) of Syracuse, UT; Robert (Michelle) of Clearfield, UT; one daughter Pam Garcia of Kaysville; a son-in-law Ed Gocel of Layton, UT; 28 grandchidren; 29 great-grandchildren; sisters Pauline (Gene) Jacobsen and Twyla (John) Peters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Don and Eldon, a sister Bonnie and his daughter Cheryl Gocel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton.
"Dear Dad and Grandpa: Thanks for teaching us how to fish, hunt, and work on our cars. Thank you for taking us camping, acting as chauffeur, and supporting us at games. Most of all, thank you for being the best Dad ever."
