William “Bill” David Sparks
1957 ~ 2007
LAYTON – Our adored husband, father and friend, Bill Sparks passed away in his home surrounded by family, Tuesday, May 22, 2007 after a heroic battle with cancer.
He was born on May 27, 1957 in Topeka, Kansas to Clifford and Hedwig Siegel Sparks. Bill was the youngest of three children. He was enrolled in High School in southern California, where he spent most of his time surfing. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 15. He served a mission in Zurich, Switzerland and Munich, Germany, where he gained a true passion for sharing the gospel and embracing people. He would spend the rest of his life devoted to the Lord’s work.
Bill married the love of his life, Lisa Tanner, on August 10, 1979, in the Ogden Temple. Over the next five years, they were blessed with four wonderful children, Michelle (26), Alicia (25), Taylor (24), and David (22). During this time Bill began his fight against brain cancer. He was an amazing example of positivity and conviction in the face of adversity. Despite his physical challenges, Bill was able to graduate from Weber State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Manufacturing Engineering in 1997.
Over the years, Bill suffered multiple tumors and strokes but just “kept on going,” which caused his family to affectionately refer to him as the energizer bunny. All who knew him can attest to his sense of humor, humility and overwhelming love for his family. He had a way of connecting with everyone he met and making all feel welcomed and loved.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lisa and four children Michelle (Aaron) McDonough, Alicia, Taylor (Jodi), and David. He is also survived by his parents and two older sisters Helen (Ron) White, and Barbara Tippets and many other loved ones. One of the crowning moments in his life was having his entire family together in the temple. We are so grateful for eternal families.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
