William Vernon Parker

William Vernon Parker passed away at the age of 68 on April 20, 2017 in Layton, Utah from Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born January 8, 1949 in Logan, Utah to Vernon Beldon Parker and Melita Fehler Parker.

His siblings are Sharon, Patricia, Norma, James, and John.  Bill spent his youth between Utah, Texas, and California.  He graduated from Buena High School in Ventura, CA and attended Ventura Community College.

He served an LDS mission to Southern Germany.  Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life and eternal companion, Beverly Lofgreen.  They married in 1971 in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.  Soon after, he enlisted in the USAF where he served for 20 years in ground-to-air communications.  After military service, the family moved to Layton, UT.  Bill worked for the State of Utah Archives, and later retired in 2013 from Salt Lake County Treasurer’s Office.

Bill is survived by his wife, Beverly, three sons and a daughter: Brendan (Desirae), Christopher (Laura), Jeremy (Lana), Chelsea Flitton (Seth), and by 17 grandchildren.

Bill enjoyed outdoor sports and gardening, but his favorite pasttime was watching old movies while eating ice cream.  He served in various capacities within the LDS church, but his favorite calling was teaching five-year-olds, always sneaking candy to them when he thought no adults were watching.  He was kind-hearted and taught his children to serve others by example.  He never lost his sense of humor, and if he could say one last thing to all who knew him, it would simply be “boolah-boolah!”

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Patty.

The family would like to thank the caretakers at Layton Park Memory Care and A Step Forward Hospice, as well as the dear friends and extended family who visited him until the very end of his mortal life.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Family and close friends may visit  Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humanitarian arm of the LDS Church @ https://www.ldsphilanthropies.org/donations or invest in food storage and emergency supplies for your own family; he would have liked that.
