William “Bill” A. Kelly
January 19, 1927 ~ February 2, 2016
William A. Kelly, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on February 2, 2016.
He was on born January 19, 1927 in Ogden, Utah, a son of James B. and Wilhelmina Mulder Kelly.
Dad attended Weber County and Ogden City Schools. He proudly served his country during World War II by enlisting in the Navy on February 2, 1944. He served for two years on the USS Alhena and saw action at the invasion of Saipan and Iwo Jima. Dad had many interesting tales and stories about his Naval experiences and antics.
Bill married Nadene Nelson on December 9, 1948. Together they raised three wonderful children, Pat, Craig, and Randy. Nadene passed away in 1990. Bill married Edna “Dottie” Braunstien in June of 2000. She preceded him in death in 2013.
Dad worked for Defense Depot Ogden and retired in 1972. At the time of his retirement, he was Supervisor of Quality Control. Bill was proud to say he was never late for work a day in his life, and he wasn’t, even when he had a flat tire.
Dad enjoyed spending time on his boat, fishing and spinning tales with the guys over coffee. It was rumored Bill could catch a fish in a glass of water. Dad loved the desert, his home in Mesquite, Nevada and winning at Keno! Bill was a true fan of baseball, the Dodgers and Red Sox were his favorite teams.
Bill was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held the office of Elder.
Bill is survived by three children, Pat (Larry) Tavenner, Craig (Carol) Kelly, and Randy (Terri) Kelly. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother and three sisters, James Kelly, Violet Bonham, Pat Dodge, and Roseann Bradshaw.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Community Nursing Services especially, Lindee, Kale, Tonya, and Terrin, and the entire staff at Legacy House of Ogden.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Ogden City Cemetery. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
