Winifred Johnson Torman
June 22, 1922 ~ September 10, 2014
On September 10, 2014, Winifred Johnson Torman quietly left this life and took her place with her beloved Bob, whom she has missed desperately for thirteen years since his passing.
“Wini” was born on June 22, 1922 to Joseph W. and Martha Wuthrich Johnson, the third of five children. She spent happy years growing up in Ogden. She graduated from Weber High School where she was known as “friendly and athletic” and was a member of the Standard Examiner Drum Corps.
She met Robert L. Torman after he returned from World War II and they soon fell in love and married in January of 1946. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters.
She worked as a telephone operator, a secretary at Defense Depot Ogden during the war and later tried her hand at real estate sales. Her greatest joy was in serving her “ever-lovin” Bob and in raising and nurturing her four children.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the 58th Ward in South Ogden. She served as a teacher, president of the Relief Society and MIA leader, among other callings. Wini was an avid reader and loved to compose poetry and music.
Wini is survived by her children, Craig (Kathy), Reed (Kathy), Annette (Steven) Coombs, and Valerie (Scott) Smith. Her posterity includes 19 wonderful grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. Wini has one surviving brother, Frank L. Johnson.
