WOODROW “WOODY” JOSEPH WILSON
1985-2015
Woodrow "Woody" Joseph Wilson was born October 4, 1985 in Waco, Texas. On December 1, 1993, when he was eight years old, he and his four siblings moved to Bountiful, Utah to join the Wilson family. He was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on January 8, 1994 by his older brother, Boris. When his adoption was finalized on September 24, 1994, he became a permanent member of the family. Woody was the kindest, friendliest, and most loving person around. He always had a smile on his face and when he laughed, you couldn't help but laugh with him. His siblings say they don't know anyone who had as many friends as Woody.
Woody attended Hannah Holbrook Elementary and Millcreek Jr. High. He earned his Eagle Scout Award on October 14, 2003. He graduated from Seminary on May 23, 2004, and Bountiful High School on June 4, 2004. He was ordained an Elder on July 11, 2004. He was later called to serve an LDS mission in Cleveland, Ohio. He returned home early due to health issues and finished his mission at Welfare Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the Job Corps Center and graduated from the carpentry program on September 20, 2011.
Woody was a hard worker and had many jobs, including performing odd jobs for friends and family. But the jobs he enjoyed the most were working for his brother Marcus and his custodial job at Hannah Holbrook Elementary. The students, staff and parents all loved Woody and say he was an important part of the Holbrook Elementary family.
Woody faithfully attended the Millstream YSA Ward. He was a friend to all and especially loved his calling as a greeter. It was the perfect calling for him because of his loving and outgoing personality.
Woody loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews, and they loved him in return. He could often be found in the backyard swimming and playing with them and was always willing to babysit. He was such a loyal brother. His siblings wish they had been even half as kind and giving to him as he was to them. He truly loved others unconditionally as the Savior does.
Woody passed away at the age of 30 on January 4, 2016 due to long term health issues. Woody returned to our loving Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, where he can touch the hearts of those in heaven with his smile and laughter and his desire and willingness to serve others. He was needed there to help finish the work, and surely he is watching over us with a smile. His family knows they will see him again, and he will greet them with a smile and a big hug and with laughter. Woodrow Joseph Wilson, our son, brother, cousin, nephew, and friend---we love and miss you.
Woody was preceded in death by his older brother, Jeff Wilson, and grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his parents, Garland and Carol Wilson, and siblings, Raymond (Margo), Boris (Kim), Marcus (Dani), Sara (Bryan Hansen), Becky (Jeremy Neville), Saba, Alex (Lani), Carol Lina, Mariaha, Shad and Chancy and 29 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2:00pm in the Millstream YSA Ward Chapel, 165 South 1000 East, Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may visit on Friday, January 8 from 6pm until 8pm, and Saturday, January 9 from 12:30pm until 1:30pm at the same chapel.
