YIJIN JIANG

1929 - 2018

Yijin Jiang, 89, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2018 to join his sweet wife Jue. He came from China to the US in 1983 and devoted his life to being a research scholar.  His intelligence and scientific aptitude was visible at an early age as he graduated from Peking University, one of the top universities in China, which some regard as the “Harvard of Asia”. He had been pursuing his dream in science throughout his entire life; he was best known for developing China’s first-generation MRI instrument (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), which was one of his greatest achievements. After moving to the US in 1983, he continued his passion for MRI research as a tenured scholar at University of Utah for over 30 years. In this role, he published many articles about his discoveries in scientific journals that led to significant breakthroughs in the field. His passion and dedication to science has been an inspiration to his family, colleagues and friends.

In addition to his accomplishments in academia, he positively impacted many people in his lifetime and leaves behind a rich legacy of hard work, humility, optimism, and much more. He is survived by his 3 children Ming, Linda, and Wenjie, along with 6 grandchildren.

His family would like to express tremendous gratitude to his best friend Jay Lamoreaux for his love and care over the years, and would also like to thank his many other friends for their love and support throughout his journey of life.
