Ymana Duncombe

Ymana “Amelia” Joseph Duncombe

Ymana passed away May 9, 2017.  She was born June 16, 1933 in Medicine Bow, Wyoming to Emil Mosud Joseph and Hannah Abulla Joseph.  She was the last of six children.  Soon after she was born, the family moved to Ogden, Utah where Ymana was raised.  She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and St. Joseph’s High School.

On November 12, 1949, Ymana married Donald W. Duncombe.  In 1955, with three children and one on the way, they bought a new home in Layton in the Wasatch Heights subdivision where Ymana lived until shortly before her death.

Together they had eight children.  Most of the time, Ymana stayed home and raised the children.  She would find odd jobs picking fruit and/or vegetables around the Layton farms and orchards.  For many years, at night, she worked at a café in Kaysville so she could supplement the family income, but also be home during the days to take care of the house work and the children.

She enjoyed doing many crafts, cooking, sewing and outdoor activities.  Because of that she was an excellent Girl Scout leader for many years.  Later, she and Donald divorced. She needed a way to support herself and the children who were still at home so she got a job working at Hill Air Force Base as a Missile Technician.  She worked there for nine years.  She loved to do rock hounding in the deserts near and around Bouse, AZ as well as crocheting and jewelry beading.  She made many friends and kept in touch with some for a longtime.  Many times, they would travel into Mexico.  Ymana enjoyed the nomadic life along with her dogs and cats.

Ymana, was an amazing mother who made sure that each child had something special that they loved, rocks, horses, guns, violins etc.  A true testament of her love for her children.

Ymana is survived by her children: Ymana (James) Johnson of Roy, Utah; Donnie Sharp of Texas, Earl (Terri) Duncombe of Hyde Park, Utah; Raydeen (Jack) Jaques of Ogden, Utah; Cerya (JayDell) Jaques of Layton, Utah; and Michael (Melanie) Duncombe of Clinton, Utah; 20 grandchildren and 69 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, LeRoy Joseph Duncombe and William Emil Duncombe, her parents, three brothers: Mosud Joseph, Joseph Joseph, and Michael Joseph; two sisters: Zahour “Mary” Bluemel and Frucine “Frances” Savage; and grandson, Monte Jaques.

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Apple Village in Layton and also Brighton Hospice for all their help and patience.
