"Together Again"
Zelda Palmer Penner
OGDEN – Zelda Penner passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2009 with family close by.
She was born July 23, 1919 in Burley, Idaho, a daughter of William and Virga Talbot Palmer. Zelda helped raise seven brothers and sisters after the early passing of her mother in 1938. One brother and one sister survive her.
Her sweetheart of 57 years, Menno Ralph Penner, preceded her in death September 21, 1996. They were married December 31, 1939 and were always devoted to each other and family. Their eternal marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple March 31, 1949.
Zelda served her Heavenly Father nobly in many various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life and was very disappointed when she had to give up her visiting teaching and leading the singing callings in the Ogden 15th Ward. She and Menno served missions in Lansing, Michigan and the Oakland, California Visitor’s Center. For many years they were officiators in the Logan and Ogden Temples.
All at Crestwood Care Center loved her and gleaned from her love and compassion as did all who knew her wherever she lived and served. Thank you Crestwood for all your TLC.
She loved her affiliation with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (the DUP’s) for many years. Her thoughts and love were always pointed to others. She loved to serve her fellow man. The joy and happiness she brought to all who knew her is her legacy. She will be sorely missed by all of us but we are very happy that she can now be with her eternal sweetheart. The celebration of her life will go on, on both sides of the veil eternally. We love you Mom and Grandma.
She is survived by three children: Darlene Mae Penner (Leroy) Rackham, Shirley Ann Penner (Dallas, deceased) George, Gary Ralph (Carol Macfarlane) Penner, all of Ogden; 14 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. One grandson, Danny Rackham, preceded her in death.
