Zell Rae Greenwood Rhoads

Zell Rae Greenwood Rhoads, age 77, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015 from her courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her children and grandchildren who loved her dearly. She was an elegant lady who loved her family and friends. Zell Rae was the first of five children born to Barnard Harley and Bernice Kofoed Greenwood on June 10, 1937 in Logan, Utah. She grew up in Ogden and attended Ogden City Schools. She married James “Jim” Lamar Rhoads, the love of her life, on August 8, 1953. They were blessed with three children. They lived in Ogden until 1963 when they moved to Riverdale. They retired in St. George in 1988.
Mom worked at IRS where she made many friends. While living in St. George, she worked for the Washington School District as a bus aide for special needs students; she loved those kids and they held a special place in her heart. She was an active member of Bloomington Hills 2 nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved monthly visiting teaching luncheons. She was very involved in Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Mom loved to travel. Dad and Mom were able to see many places in the world with family and friends. She especially loved Hawaii. She collected salt and pepper shakers and dolls of every kind that she loved dearly.
Mom had many talents. She loved crocheting and sewing. She shared these talents with others. She had a special love for babies and little children.
She was a gracious hostess and made everyone feel welcome. Mom devoted her life to family and creating fun memories. Every holiday was a special event that was looked forward to. All day 4 th of July parties in Riverdale, Easter egg hunts, magical Christmases, and love for family on Memorial Day and Thanksgiving.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Zell Rae is survived by her three children, Janet Peck, Scott (Shaun) Rhoads, and Sheryl Leavitt. Her mother, Bernice Greenwood; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, her sister, Karen Howard; brother, Barnard (Nancy) Greenwood; brother-in-law, Kent Youngman; brother, Brent (Sandi) Greenwood; brother-in-law, Tom (Francis) Rhoads; and many nieces and nephews who she loved. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim Rhoads; her father, Barnard Harley “B.H.” Greenwood; grandson, Justin Hall Rhoads; sister, Sandra Youngman; brothers-in-law, Lowell Howard and Del McBride; and sister-in-law, Joyce McBride.
A special thank you to Bob Leavitt for his help in caring for mom’s home in St. George since Dad’s passing. Words cannot begin to express the gratitude of our hearts to our brother Scott and especially his dear wife Shaun for the love and care that has been given to mom the past years.
To mom and grandma, we all say thank you for all you gave to us and we will miss you and always remember the love you gave us.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
