Zelma May Read Hancock 1913 ~ 2011
WEST WEBER a" Our beloved mother and grandmother returned home peacefully to her husband and Heavenly Father on Monday, April 25, 2011.
She was born May 29, 1913, to Thomas William Read and Elizabethann Christiansen Read in Hooper, Utah.
Zelma married Boyd Hancock in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 23, 1937. They enjoyed over 66 years of marriage together.
Mother served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and, at the time of her passing, was the oldest member of the West Weber 3rd Ward at the age of 97. She also was honored at the West Weber Sesquicentennial Celebration and parade in 2009. Her daily devotion to share her testimony with others was her love. She was truly pure in thought and deed. Mother was proud to have served in her callings in each of the auxiliaries: Relief Society, Young Womens and the Primary. She often wrote "letters" expressing her testimony to her extended family. These letters will be a treasure forever. She had an unwavering testimony she needed to share.
Zelma was a devoted wife and mother. She lived a remarkable life. Her love, devotion, optimism and "happy" manner will long be felt and remembered. She read the scriptures daily, enjoyed playing Sudoku, listening to music, painting pictures, crocheting and knitting. She knitted countless hats for the less fortunate and the children in Africa. She also enjoyed college sports and the Utah Jazz. She was blessed to live in the same home for over 73 years. She made you feel glad to have stopped by for a visit. She radiated happiness and love. She loved God''s creations, especially flowers and birds. She knew the names of hundreds of flowers she grew in her beautiful gardens.
Mother we love you, miss you, and will never forget you.
Mother is survived by her four children: Jerry Hancock, Gary (Judie) Hancock, Joan (Richard) Kendell and Rex (Sharon) Hancock; 20 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Her husband and her brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the West Weber 3rd Ward Chapel, 4100 West 900 South. Family will meet with friends at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday at the Ward Chapel 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
