Arlene W. Ellis

June 28, 1926 ~ April 15, 2015

Arlene W. Ellis, 88, passed away on a snowy April 15, 2015 in Ogden, her lifelong home.  She was born on June 28, 1926 at the original Dee Hospital to Charles B. and Vera Pickford West.  She attended Ogden Schools graduating from Ogden High in 1944.  She attended Weber State College excelling in the secretarial sciences such as shorthand, a lost art.

She was executive secretary to Mr. B. Browning, President of Browning Arms.  She often recalled walking to work at the First Security Building in downtown Ogden.

Arlene married Robert L. Ellis on April 5, 1951 at the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They were married for over 63 years when he passed away on November 15, 2014.

She “reluctantly” gave up her position at Browning Arms when she became pregnant with her first child in 1955.

Arlene became the typical 50s housewife.  She enjoyed playing bridge with her Monday night club for almost 40 year.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served in many positions.  Her favorite was being Weber Heights Stake Primary Secretary.

Arlene found her ideal volunteering group at the Dee Hospital as a “Pink Lady”.  She eventually became president of the Hospital Volunteers.  She fondly remembered those she served with over the years.

She joined the Altruist Club eventually serving as President.  She survived breast cancer.  She traveled extensively in Europe often finding herself lost with her son and/or daughter before the days of GPS.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Karen, Park City and son, Mark, Salt Lake City.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Dr. Donald West; and her favorite cousins, Mildred, Maurine, and Florence.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family thanks Comfort Keepers, especially Sara, the staff and volunteers at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home, and A Step Forward Hospice for helping her through the final stage of life.
