Jean Chamberlain

Jean Andersen Chamberlain passed away Sunday, February16, 2014.

Jean was born December 10, 1943 in Ogden, Utah, to J. Forsgren Andersen and Erma Bambrough Andersen. Jean grew up in Ogden City on 36 th Street next to George’s Market. She graduated from Ogden High School and later attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah. She also completed requirements for her Associates of Science Degree at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.

Jean worked as a Dental Assistant for several years prior to her marriage. She also worked at the old Bon Marche clothing department store and at the old St. Benedict’s Hospital (now Ogden Regional Hospital). In fact, she was working at the hospital up until the day she delivered her 1 st child, Sonya, on July 12, 1967.  She worked part-time selling World Book Encyclopedias and Sandak Sandals out of her home to assist her husband in raising their children. She also worked as a switch board operator at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City and volunteered at the Ogden Union Station with her mother.

On July 19, 1965, Jean married Dennis Vance Chamberlain. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple for time and eternity. Dennis and Jean resided in Ogden for several years until Dennis began working in Salt Lake City in the early 1970’s, at which time they moved to Centerville, then Bountiful, and finally North Salt Lake City in Davis County.  Upon Dennis’s retirement they moved to Roy in 2005.

Jean was very active in the LDS Church having held positions in the Ward Primaries and Relief Societies. She and Dennis worked in the Ward Libraries in their Bountiful and North Salt Lake Wards as well as missionaries in the LDS employment office.

Jean and Dennis had five children, Sonya (Chris) Balling, Lori (Matt) Grotepas, Scott (Amy)  Chamberlain, Cindy (Tom Lambert) Hadley, and Jason (Chanel) Chamberlain. They have 25 beautiful grandchildren who will greatly miss their grandmother.

Jean is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, two brothers, Julian Andersen and Steve Andersen, both of Seattle, Washington; two sisters, Anne Connelly, Riverdale; and Janis Farran, Rolling Hills, California.

In spite of severe physical handicaps, including surviving a severe brain tumor removal at age 8, and a severe stroke that left her paralyzed on her left side, she was able to bear and raise five children very successfully, with complete love and support.

Jean will be markedly missed by her loving husband, children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters.

No one can ever take her place.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at West Haven Ward Chapel, 3628 South 2700 West.

The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 6 to 8p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Thursday from 9:45 to 10: 45 a.m. at the church.
