John Harmon

March 19, 1947 — March 4, 2020

LAYTON – John Grover Harmon peacefully returned home March 4, 2020 surrounded by his family.  John was born March 19, 1947 to John Lee and Anna Laura Hazelton Harmon in Huntington Park, CA.  John was the oldest of four siblings.  He graduated from Huntington Park High in 1965.  He attended Utah State University, where he met Deanna Young.  The two were married December 17, 1966.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden Temple on December 15, 1979.  They were married for 45 years.  Six years after mom passed, Dad met and married Susan Jackson.  They married on March 11, 2017.  Dad and Sue spent three happy years traveling and laughing.

Dad was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He loved his Heavenly Father and his elder brother Jesus Christ. He had a testimony of the gospel.  Dad served in many callings.  He loved Scouting and served as a Webelo leader for many years.  He enjoyed serving in the High Priest leadership and getting to know those he served and served with.

Dad loved Scouting and the outdoors.  He earned his Eagle Scout and passed his love for Scouting to his children.  The Scout Oath played an important part in his life.

Dad drove for UTA from August of 1985 until he retired in November 2007.  He loved his job and easily made friends with his coworkers and those that rode his bus.  Dad also made many life-long friends through his hobby of gun collecting.  He loved shooting guns and talking about guns.

Dad loved his family.  He is survived by his wife Susan Harmon; his three daughters: Kimberly Harmon, Layton, UT; Bethany (Geoffrey) Bovey, Sandy, UT; Katherine Harmon, Layton, UT; three grandchildren: Benjamin Bovey, Celine Bovey, and Madelyn Bovey; his brothers Bill (Renee) Harmon, South Gate, CA; Jesse (Robin) Harmon, Joshua Tree, CA; and sister Laura (David) Thomason, Topeka, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Dad was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Deanna, and his son John Christian Harmon.
