PAUL WAYNE WIGNALL
1938 - 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Paul Wayne Wignall on May 25, 2021, in Farmington, Utah.
Paul was born March 11, 1938 to Alden Ralph Wignall and Helen Mayetta Monger in Portland, Oregon at Good Samaritan Hospital. Paul lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a short time before moving to San Diego where they lived throughout WWII. Paul and his parents moved to Utah when he was 8 years old; he grew up in the avenues with his valued group of friends known as the “avenue brats”. He kept in touch with them up until the time of his death.
After graduating from high school Paul joined the Navy, spending his time at the Alameda Naval Air Station. After getting top secret clearance, he was part of the security group that flew on P2V Bombers with long range reconnaissance. A year after returning from the Navy, Paul met his future bride, Susan, through a friend on a blind date. They were married April 12, 1962, in the Salt Lake Temple; they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary a short time before Susan passed away on August 1, 2020. Paul and Susan loved the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had strong testimonies. Susan enlisted Paul’s help in genealogy work by having him be in charge of all the photos.
Paul was a designer for the Utah Department of Transportation. After retiring in 1998, Paul and Susan moved to St. George, Utah where they spent 15 happy years before moving to Bountiful, Utah. Paul loved everything related to aviation and loved listening to jazz music. He really loved editing photos on his computer to improve the quality the best he could.
Paul was best known for his sarcastic sense of humor, joking with everyone even in his last wakeful minutes. He was a kind and caring person and loved his family completely. Paul had a great memory and often shared stories of his experiences in life. He was a true handyman and could fix or do anything he wanted to.
Paul is survived by his children: Wayne (Lisa) Wignall, Wendy (Toni) Rudolph, and Sonja Johnson; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Kathy (Doug) Cheshire. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; sister-in-law, Beverly Young; and son-in-law, Bryan Johnson.
Graveside services are being held for the family on Friday, May 28, 2021, under the direction of Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.
